I am in a wheelchair, but I can still walk. Is there
anything that can allow me to walk, but rest when I need to?
Many people find themselves in this grey area where they are
unsure about what kind of assistance device to buy. There are
chair walkers that allow people to walk around as long as they
feel comfortable, but then take a seat on a chair on the walker
when they get a little sore or tired.
Aside from leg and back strength, which other physical
limtations need to be considered when choosing a walker?
Many people have problems using walkers beacause they are constantly
needing to use their arms and shoulders in order to get from one
place to the next. If they are already having problems with their
upper body, then perhaps they would be better off finding walkers
that include rolling wheels on them.
Will my baby use a walker?
Your baby might not use a walker right away, but it is almost
certain that a time will come when the baby will love to use the
walker. When this time comes, he will quickly begin to understand
what kinds of muscles he will need to use when he begins to walk
by himself. Be patient with your child. Just remember that soon
after he begins walking, you will be wondering why you wanted
him to start walking so quickly in the first place.
