Even though they are one of the most popular methods of entertaining
a child, the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) claims that
a baby walker is a very dangerous toy. Their numbers indicate
that walkers send more that 14,000 children to the hospital every
year and have caused at least 34 deaths since 1973.
Dangers associated with a baby walker can include:
• Bones broken from falling down stairs
• Burns caused by enabling a child to reach stovetops
• Drowning from rolling into a pool
• Fingers and hands pinched in drawers and cabinets.
Despite the AAP’s continuous efforts to ban baby walker
production, it remains extremely popular so instead, they recommend
exersaucers for children. With one grounding post, a child can
run around in circles without the threat of dangerous stairs or
pools.
